Dennis:I'm Dennis Collins and my partner today is
Leah:Leah Bumfrey.
Leah:Hi from Canada.
Dennis:Hi Leah.
Dennis:Welcome back.
Dennis:You're still putting up with me and I appreciate it.
Dennis:Thank you.
Leah:Hey, we have a lot of fun here.
Leah:It's excellent.
Dennis:We do.
Dennis:Today This is a little spooky.
Dennis:First of all, why do we want everything so fast today?
Dennis:You, you, you guys have Uber Eats in Canada, don't you?
Dennis:Uber Eats.
Leah:Oh, absolutely.
Leah:Yeah.
Leah:Quick, quick, now, now, now.
Dennis:I am so addicted to it.
Dennis:I mean, you know, a few clicks of the, of the, uh, on the phone,
Dennis:and the food appears at your door.
Dennis:How about Amazon?
Dennis:I get upset when I don't get same day delivery.
Dennis:Damn it.
Dennis:Why can't you did it yesterday?
Dennis:Why can't you do it today?
Dennis:We're impatient.
Dennis:Yes.
Dennis:Okay.
Dennis:So are you Leah, an early adopter?
Dennis:Do you go for technology?
Dennis:Are you one of the early adopters?
Leah:You know what?
Leah:I'm not.
Leah:I like to see, I like to talk to people who are using it.
Leah:I like to see how it might fit into my world.
Leah:I think that technology is a tool.
Leah:I'm no troglodyte, but I, I'm not going to be the first one lining up at midnight
Leah:for the next, next edition of anything.
Dennis:You, you won't be there in line for the new Apple phone.
Dennis:No, that's not going to be me.
Dennis:Okay.
Dennis:Well, today we may touch a little bit.
Dennis:on the nerves of people who are not early technology adopters.
Dennis:Because today I want to, I want to talk about nano tools.
Dennis:You got it.
Dennis:Do you, what's a nano tool?
Dennis:You ever heard of that?
Leah:Well, I remember a couple of episodes of Star Trek and
Leah:I'm for sure not into that.
Leah:Nobody's injecting anything into my black stream.
Leah:I don't care how cute those little robots are.
Leah:What?
Leah:I thought this was sales.
Leah:What are you talking about, Dennis?
Dennis:I know.
Dennis:Well, again, let me share with you something that's brand new, but first,
Dennis:before I do that, I want to remind our viewers and listeners, stay tuned for
Dennis:the whole episode because we, you ask and we listen, we answer your questions.
Dennis:We also issue our breakthrough challenge, right?
Dennis:This stuff that we talk about actually works in real life.
Dennis:Okay.
Dennis:Okay.
Dennis:So.
Dennis:Let me share the meaning of nanotools.
Dennis:It's a fast, effective tool based on brain science that you
Dennis:can learn in 15 minutes or less.
Dennis:It has the potential to significantly impact your success.
Dennis:Now, does that interest you, Leah?
Leah:Well, absolutely.
Leah:We are busy people.
Leah:Life is full.
Leah:And that is not, not bragging, but we 15 minutes I'm in.
Dennis:Yep.
Dennis:Well, let me share with you how this all came about.
Dennis:Uh, the very smart people at the Wharton School in Philadelphia, at
Dennis:the University of Pennsylvania, have designed something called nanotools.
Dennis:Nanotools.
Dennis:And their professors and others that they, uh, choose, submit to an app.
Dennis:Yeah.
Dennis:Everything's an app.
Dennis:There it is.
Dennis:Nano tools.
Dennis:Okay.
Dennis:Everything's an app.
Dennis:And on that app, on that app, you can get instantly, you can get instantly
Dennis:advice on almost anything in business.
Dennis:For instance, how about, how do you create high performing and resilient teams?
Dennis:How about leadership 2.
Dennis:0?
Dennis:How about, here's one that I like, Leah.
Dennis:Recognizing deception.
Dennis:Here's another one.
Dennis:Influencing without authority.
Dennis:Here's one.
Dennis:Better communication through neuroscience.
Dennis:Okay, those are all nano tool topics that you can get instantly
Dennis:and learn them within 15 minutes.
Dennis:Now let me share with you one of them.
Dennis:That's one of my favorites.
Dennis:In fact, I'm going to look at my app right now and I'll tell you what I'm looking at.
Dennis:This one here is called speak with confidence for fixes that work.
Dennis:The author of this one is Jonah.
Dennis:I'm Uh, uh, Berger.
Dennis:Jonah Berger is a professor at Wharton.
Dennis:He's also a prolific author.
Dennis:If you haven't read Jonah Berger's books, get them.
Dennis:So he wrote in the nanotools, what's the goal?
Dennis:Greater confidence and power through your choice of words.
Dennis:What's the nanotool?
Dennis:Okay?
Dennis:He has four action steps right here in the nanotool.
Dennis:Ditch the hedges.
Dennis:When somebody says, uh, around, arguably, generally, kind of, maybe.
Dennis:No good.
Dennis:No bueno.
Dennis:Use definites.
Dennis:Definitely.
Dennis:Clearly.
Dennis:Obviously.
Dennis:Without a shred of doubt.
Dennis:Ditch the hedges.
Dennis:Ditch the hedges and use definites.
Dennis:Don't hesitate.
Dennis:You know, I'm a member of Toastmasters, and we have a bell
Dennis:rung every time we say ah, um, er, any kind of filler words like that.
Dennis:The science says people who use those filler words are less credible, less
Dennis:believable, than those who don't use them.
Dennis:So ditch the hedges.
Dennis:Ditch the hesitation words and last but not least, turn pasts into presence.
Dennis:Okay.
Dennis:It's not what did happen.
Dennis:It's what is happening.
Dennis:Okay.
Dennis:So that little nano tool, I just read it off to you in about two or three minutes.
Dennis:That is one example of a nano tool that works.
Dennis:How does, how does that.
Dennis:Is that creepy to you?
Dennis:What do you think, Leah?
Leah:Well, no, because this is actually just a credible source of information.
Leah:I mean, I trust you, Dennis.
Leah:You're well read, you've been in sales for, what is it, 157 years, so.
Dennis:At least, at least, yes.
Dennis:At least,
Leah:but you know this stuff, and if it has credibility to you, and they
Leah:are sucking it down into something very specific, this is worth everybody's time.
Dennis:Yes.
Dennis:Again, uh, anything that can save us time and increase
Dennis:productivity, we should look at it.
Dennis:I have no, uh, I am not in business with Wharton.
Dennis:I get no commission for talking about this.
Dennis:I just think it's a cool thing.
Dennis:It's fairly new.
Dennis:And a lot of people like Leah said, what the heck is a nano tool, but go for it.
Dennis:Try it.
Dennis:Uh, there are so many topics in there.
Dennis:I can't read them all, but you can by downloading the app.
Dennis:So, so let's, uh, let's talk about our question for today.
Dennis:We always try to answer a listener or viewer question.
Dennis:What's our question for today, Leah?
Leah:The question today is if we were starting out in sales, starting
Leah:out in a, in, in, in sales and, uh, I mean, everyone knows that we have
Leah:worked in the advertising business and worked with, with, uh, wizardacademy.
Leah:org, but if we were starting out in sales.
Leah:And going home to tell our parents, this is what we're doing.
Leah:What gets us the most excited about it?
Dennis:Hmm.
Dennis:That's an interesting question.
Dennis:What gets us excited about being in the business we've been in?
Leah:You know, this is, this is an interesting question to me and the reason
Leah:I picked it, Dennis, was I, uh, this is now going back to my early career
Leah:in sales, and I was working with a gal, uh, that started out, this was an
Leah:office equipment sales, so different, different topic, different, different
Leah:area of expertise than what I have now, and this gal started and her,
Leah:she wouldn't tell her dad because he was so embarrassed she was in sales.
Leah:Now she, to be, to be honest, she referred to herself as the east
Leah:side princess because she had had many, many advantages in this world.
Leah:And the idea that she was going to school having, and now had a job
Leah:where she was providing a service really bothered her parents.
Leah:Now for me, when I was able to finally get and crack into a, uh, entry level.
Leah:Sales position.
Leah:What I was excited about was the fact that I was going to be learning something
Leah:specific and being able to work with a variety of businesses, because to me,
Leah:it just opened up a whole new world.
Dennis:I would have to say that that excited me too.
Dennis:I can, as you're talking, I'm thinking back to my very first
Dennis:moments in the business, very young.
Dennis:Totally naive.
Dennis:Uh, no, very little.
Dennis:But you know what excited me is, is, is helping the, the opportunity to
Dennis:help small businesses, particularly small local businesses succeed
Dennis:because I was their voice.
Dennis:I could amplify their voice.
Dennis:On radio and TV, and that was cool.
Dennis:And now creating messages.
Dennis:What, what really excites me is I feel like I am the, the,
Dennis:the creator of the message.
Dennis:That's important.
Dennis:I think.
Dennis:Um, and you know, it message, it's everything.
Leah:And it all goes to building communities.
Leah:And we live in communities.
Leah:If we can build local businesses, that's I think why I love
Leah:Wizard academy.org so much.
Leah:Um, you know, the, the.
Leah:Their intent and all the classes that they have are focused on being able to
Leah:help small businesses grow, you know, to take what that daydream is and grow.
Leah:And that's why I love that when our listeners are sending in questions, we
Leah:are going to be picking someone to be the recipient of a class at Wizard Academy.
Dennis:Go online at wizardacademy.org and look at the classes and think about
Dennis:which one you would like to go to.
Dennis:When you get in touch with us with your questions and your challenge, how you did
Dennis:on your challenge, we're going to pick one for a free seat in an upcoming class.
Dennis:That's wizardacademy.org.
Dennis:Uh, so today, what's our challenge?
Dennis:Our challenge is, what will you do?
Dennis:To learn more about nano tools.
Dennis:It's easy as can be.
Dennis:If I can do it, you can do it.
Dennis:It's a download.
Dennis:Okay.
Dennis:It's an app on your phone and it has hundreds, hundreds of
Dennis:ideas about how you can speed up.
Dennis:Check it out, let us know what you think about it.
Dennis:It's Dennis Collins at wizard of ads dot com and
Leah:Leah, Leah Bumfrey at wizard.
Leah:com.
Leah:WizardAcademy.
Leah:com.
Leah:How am I doing?
Leah:I forgot my email address.
Dennis:You better make it, you better make it WizardOfAds.
Dennis:com.
Leah:WizardOfAds.
Leah:com.
Leah:Man, I love it.
Leah:It is.
Leah:I, I better get on that nano just to, how do I memorize my email address?
Dennis:Yeah, let's start with that first.
Dennis:So, uh, again.
Dennis:We usually like to end with a success story about how the
Dennis:material we're talking about works.
Dennis:This stuff is so new that I don't have one.
Dennis:I know personally it works for me.
Dennis:I can vouch for that.
Dennis:I have used these nanotools.
Dennis:They have shortened my learning curve on so many things.
Dennis:But we're going to be looking for other success stories.
Dennis:Why don't you send us one?
Dennis:Send us a success story of how you picked a nano tool and you
Dennis:used it and it was effective.
Dennis:Does that make sense?
Leah:I think that's fantastic.
Leah:I mean, I'm, I am a huge proponent as are you of reading and getting
Leah:information and checking sources and just finding out what people have done.
Leah:But what I, uh, what appeals to me about this, this app is that it's 15 minutes.
Leah:segments.
Leah:And from there you can branch off and wow.
Leah:So I think we're, we're on a, on a good challenge for the, for, uh, and
Leah:a good, good setting for questions and success stories for next time.
Dennis:Perfect.
Dennis:Well, that's the stage.
Dennis:You have our, the challenge, our breakthrough challenge.
Dennis:Please accept it.
Dennis:Please respond to us, uh, via the emails we just mentioned.
Dennis:We look forward to seeing you on the next Connect and Convert.
Dennis:See you soon.
